Preventive Care

« Back to Medical Services

Understanding that all human beings are made in the image of God, we believe that it is important to honor God with our bodies by maintaining and improving wellness, in order to live a long and healthy life. Esperanza Health Center seeks to promote healthy lifestyles for each of our patients in a variety of ways—encouraging good parenting skills, healthy eating, regular physical activity, sexual expression within marriage, avoiding/quitting smoking, limiting alcohol use, avoiding/quitting drug use, stress management, and spiritual growth.

Esperanza desires to advocate for health on an individual level through scheduled appointments for periodic health evaluations with a health care professional. We also seek to do this on a community level through educational materials, health outreach, and through our Community Health Promoter program and other community-based programs.

Resistance to illness can be increased by receiving recommended immunizations. Preventive care also involves testing/screening in order to detect illnesses at an early, more easily treatable stage. Testing and screening offered at Esperanza includes: child growth and developmental screening; anemia, lead, diabetes, and blood pressure screening; HIV testing; and, clinician referrals for mammograms, Pap smears, and colonoscopy.
