Nutrition and Wellness
We provide a range of health education and wellness initiatives for our patients and for the North Philadelphia community, with a focus on prevention and promotion of total health and well-being.Under the direction of Esperanza’s Dietitian and Diabetes Educator, Tabitha Miller, RD, LDN, personal nutrition and diet counseling is available. Specialized diabetes management and nutrition counseling are also integrated with medical care for patients with diabetes. With the opening of our new health and wellness center in Hunting Park, we plan to offer an array of new health education and wellness initiatives that will be open to all Esperanza patients and to the entire community. For example:
- In our new teaching kitchen, classes on healthy cooking will be offered.
- Classes on topics such as smoking cessation and stress management will be taught in the facility’s two new classrooms.
- Community-based group and individual fitness activities, such as group aerobics classes, Zumba, volleyball, and walking clubs, will take place at the new multi-purpose gymnasium and fitness room.
We’re also planning family-friendly community activities, including “Monthly Community Nights” to take place in our multi-purpose room, in partnership with local churches and organizations. Among the activities being planned include multi-cultural music and concerts, ethnic cooking, visual arts, crafts, and sports events, among many others. Please return to this website in the near future for more information about these exciting events, as well as new health and wellness initiatives at Esperanza!
